Profile
Walter Tavares Russell Jr., better known as "Retlaw Tha Future" was born in Lucea, Hanover on November 21, 1987. He is the son of Reverend Walter Tavares Russell Sr. – Danny -- and Sandra Loretta Campbell-Russell. Danny and Sandra gave birth to three children – one girl and two boys – of which “Tha Future” is the eldest. Reverend Russell -- a former reggae band and gospel band leader -- paved the way for “Tha Future” at a very early age. At the age of one year, Walter Jr. was banging on pots, bowls, anything he laid his hands on. At the age of six, Walter Russell Jr. surprised the entire congregation at his father’s church in Morgan’s Past, Clarendon, with his amazing drumming skills. His first lessons in music were received from his father who taught him his first few chords on the piano. Consequently, there was no turning back as he began playing the keyboard, the drums, and even the bass in church. His years at secondary school saw him forming his group called -- 3G – with two of his friends: Nathan 'NBP' Powell, and Jermaine 'JAY' Rodney. They were a group of Rappers. It was then that he started making hip beats. Moreover, he sees music production as a calling -- a calling that began at Clarendon College and Iona High School, and at the age of seventeen years he enrolled at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. There he pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz and Pop Performance. “Retlaw Tha Future” is a young producer and already owns his label -- Future World Production.
